Drum Dsciples - Giving Back to the Local Community

Drum Dsciples

We seek to Encourage, Empower, and Equip the youth of today in our community, teach them the art of music, discipleship and to produce future leaders inside and out of our community.

Music education program run by Robert Powell (Tribal Dude Percussion) and Gregory Wilson (Founder). The students are ages 6-18 and live in the inner-city of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Drum Dsciples WEST PALMHistory - Origin with Gregory Wilson

The ideal of a drum troupe, dedicated first and foremost to God, began in Chicago with the meeting of Minister Ramon Roman and Gregory Wilson at the Lawrence Street Beach. Pastor Ramon was playing his congas and Greg asked if he could sit in with his Djembe sometime. Since then Pastor Ramon adopted Greg as a father in Christ and they began planning this vision.

They initially started by including drumming while ministering in Cook County Jail. Fast Forward, God had a broader plan for us which brought Greg to West Palm Beach and most significantly Urban Youth Impact. There he met a phenomenal individual Chris Tess who provided me with an allowance to buy equipment for the drum troupe.

Urban Youth Impact is now the home of the Drum Disciples and the organization is full of individuals dedicated to Christ and his mission. Robert Powell came along years later, as a member of Bow Down Church, and started volunteering with the Drum Dsciples program. Sharing the love of drumming, Robert and Greg joined forces and hosted many classes at Urban Youth Impact. Since then, Robert Powell has been a volunteer instructor for the past 2 years, dedicating his time to teaching the children discipline, how to make drums and play drums, and how to work as a team. The Drum Dsciples has played at events with the kids from the Kravis Center to Boca Raton County Club. To learn about how to become a mentor to one of these children, click here. Many of the students at Urban Youth Impact are talented beyond belief. We thank God for all of them!!!
